Huda’s Mauve Obsessions palette has maintained cult status ever since it launched. I got mine just over a year ago as part of the Cult Beauty 10th birthday goodie bag and it has remained a staple for evening looks in my collection to this day.

Huda Obsessions are a collection of miniature, compact palettes which come in a range of colour themes. They’re perfect for travel but also for Huda eyeshadow newbies who want to try out the brand before investing more serious money into a full-sized palette (£56).

I fell in love with the mauve palette at first sight. Though, as a serial neutral eyeshadow wearer, I must admit that I was initially hesitant to invest. My primary worry was that £25 worth of eyeshadow would gather dust whilst I was busy still blending bronzes. When I invest in high-end beauty I want to know that I’ll get good cost per use. What I love though, now that the palette is mine, is that it really encouraged me to venture outside of my go-to neutrals. Since its purchase, I’ve invested in a few other less classic colour palettes and have so enjoyed experimenting.

Mauve Obsessions is comprised of rosy and neutral taupe shades in matte, satin and foil effect textures. The shades are beautiful and are perfect for when you want to add a little extra something-something to your look. The foil effect inclusions are particularly stunning and are what really sold the palette to me. On swatching, I couldn’t help but be wowed.

WHAT IT’S GOOD FOR

Despite using it irregularly, I’ve definitely made great use of the palette as a special occasion product. On the other hand, the variety of textures and tones make it incredibly versatile. This single x9 shade palette is all you’d really need to take on a short break away.

The neutral taupe alone acts as a simple and effortless daytime shadow. While blending in the darker burgundy shades instantly achieves a more sultry, evening look. The lighter pinks, particularly those with gorgeous foil effect finishes, achieve more fun and girly looks.

PERFORMANCE

As someone who admires artistic eyeshadow looks, I’m admittedly still working on my own skills. You certainly don’t have to be a professional makeup artist to achieve pretty looks and to get good use out of this palette. The matte and satin shadows blend seamlessly and as long as you have a basic knowledge of which brushes to pair with which shade to achieve your desired look, you’re set.

The formula is fantastic. I’m impressed by the colour payoff of every shade and love that it includes a white. It’s perfect to prep the lid before using colour or to help blend out any smaller errors.

Lastly, the durability is admirable. The shadows last all day without creasing or fading, and once the foil effects are set, (I use the Urban Decay All Nighter all over my face) the glitter within stays put all day without fallout.

It’s no secret that glitter, like sand, gets everywhere. When using the shimmers I like to either complete my eyeshadow before moving on to the rest of my makeup (so that a once over with a wipe will rid the skin of any odd flecks) or I like to place a tissue just under my eye so that the glitter falls there.

OVERALL

I have so many palettes which I use to create day-to-day looks. For that reason, I love keeping back a couple of special ones for when I want to feel good and be at the top of my game. The Mauve Obsessions is that. The shade inclusions are perfect for looks that are a little less ordinary.

In over a year I haven’t come close to hitting pan on one single shade and that’s not for lack of use. Despite the size of Mauve Obsessions, I really do think that it warrants the £25 investment.
