Our skin is demanding. With weather too hot or too cold it becomes dehydrated and doesn’t look it’s best. Good body care products are essential all year round but obviously, differ from summer to winter. I’m here to talk about the ones I’ve been using recently, particularly those I’d recommend.
I feel as though I’m writing this post a little late but bear with me. It may feel as though summer is over, but we actually have over a month of it left! Some of these are sun depending, but others are just good, general body care products that you can use pretty much all year round. If you’re heading on holiday soon then pay close attention to the Gatineau mention, if not, we can always keep our fingers crossed for another heatwave.
I didn’t want to make this a post heavy on fake tan, as I’ve mentioned some favourites before. I had to include this though, as it’s been a staple body product of mine for a few years now. It’s amazing for last minute top-ups when your tan is fading (or gone). It takes just a few minutes to apply, doesn’t transfer to clothes easily and doesn’t have much of a scent. This is basically foundation for your legs and has airbrushed mine so many times.
For those of us who are naturally pale, tanning can be an infuriatingly slow process. This summer I’ve discovered Gatineau’s Tan Accelerating Lotion and honestly, it’s a game-changer.
Okay, so it is pricey, but if you want a beautiful tan the safe way, then this is the body care you need. The lotion prepares the skin for exposure to the sun, kick-starting the natural production of melanin to achieve a quicker, longer-lasting tan. Key ingredients such as mélatogénine™, vitamin E and grapeseed oil combine to protect against UV rays whilst toning, tightening and moisturising the skin.
I’ve been using this lotion for most of the summer and can honestly say that I’ve never tanned so well. You may have seen that we visited the Dominican this summer, but considering how little I tanned on our (longer) trip to Mexico a couple of years ago, I’m confident that the Dominican sun is only jointly responsible alongside the tan accelerating lotion. I continued using this when we got back to the UK and throughout that lovely July weather and my tan got even deeper.
I’m not too fussy when it comes to which SPF I use, but the UV water is the one I’ve been reaching for this summer. It’s cheap and does the job you need it to. After spending over $100 (that’s US dollars and no, I’m not joking) on sunscreen when we were in the DR, I couldn’t recommend packing more rather than less if you’re travelling anywhere hot.
We were lucky enough to see a decent amount of sun throughout July and I’m hoping it hasn’t left for good. Although I love the warmer days, we all know the risks of sun exposure, which is why I’ve included SPF as a must. However, alongside the already known, more serious sun risks, it can also cause dryness and dehydration. Moisturising regularly is key, and I’ve been using the antipodes hand and body creams. They’re so rich that you can feel them working instantly and they feature some great, natural ingredients for both moisture and lovely scent.
A high-end body scrub isn’t something I’d typically splurge on, but I got this free at the ClarinsxInthefrow event. Although moisturising is important against dry skin, using a body scrub to rid ourselves of dead skin cells is an equally important step but one which a lot of people seem to miss.
This claims to soften, smooth and firm by polishing the skin and stimulating skin cell renewal. While I find a lot of cheaper products that I’ve used in the past effective, I’ve worried about how harsh they feel against my skin. This one has a creamy texture and gently exfoliates, benefitting my skin in exactly the ways Clarins claim it should.
